New McNeil Website

Larry has a new website that recently went live! It has taken a number of months for us to do the planning, production work and multiple drafts. I was fortunate to have the assistance of John Francis, a very gifted, creative and smart graphic designer. We used to teach in the same Art Department; he in Graphic Design and Photography and of course, me in photography. John’s design and strategic plans for the website are truly outstanding. I could not have done this myself, thank you John.

Designing and building a new website is very time consuming because it needs to be simple, fast, intuitive and hopefully have an elegant, highly functional design. John and I spent a lot of time making an outline of the new site. It is more complex than one would imagine because minimizing clutter and designing it to be intuitive isn’t easy as one would imagine.

Home Page for the new Larry McNeil site

The home page is dominated with thumbnails for each of the ten portfolios. Just organizing all of my portfolios was kind of daunting, and I wanted to simplify it for people visiting the site. When you scroll over the thumbnail, the name appears and when you click it, the portfolio opens. When you click on the image, the description appears. To make the viewer’s life easier, you can click the button on the bottom and download a .Pdf file of the portfolio, no need to write anything down. Easy as pie.

There is a new Blog section where I’ll be able to easily share writings and events. The Press section is where you may view articles, essays and reviews about and with McNeil. They’re easily downloadable in .Pdf documents. The About section is a brief description of McNeil that also has an easily downloadable CV (resume). It also has a section for videos that feature McNeil (the first video is posted, more to follow). The last link on the homepage is the Contact page which goes directly to McNeil’s email address.

Larry needs to have viewers make links to his website. After a year of being without a website, he’s ready to go again. To encourage links, Larry is going to give away an artist’s proof of the new print “Ms. Coyote, Love, Gratitude and Anvils” (11” or 29cm wide). Make a link to McNeil’s new site and send him a screenshot of the link and you’re entered in the drawing which will be selected at random. The value of the artist’s proof is about $31 million. Ok, maybe a little less, but please participate; it is a gorgeous print! Thank you for checking out the site!
