Raven Asks Pontiac Series, 1999

When McNeil’s Indigenous son was four years old, he came home singing a patriotic song he learned at school. It was a song used to teach preschoolers about George Washington. That would not do at all. The “Raven asks Pontiac” portfolio was about riffs between Raven and Pontiac, a car hood ornament. An Indigenous face and mind. McNeil called his son into the studio to see the new work. He sat on McNeil’s lap with his arm around his dad’s shoulder and giggled at the whimsical chutzpah of the story. And the world spun on.
