Coyote 2-Step Shuffle

The ancient evening was dark and chilly with a dusting of snow, which gave the dim landscape a slight, nearly magical glow. Even I could see in the dark. The little coyote was trotting across our rock wall like she owned the joint, and a glint of light momentarily reflected off her eye. She let out an impressive howl that said, “Where are you mamma?” The little coyote was goofing off and got separated. I asked her, “Where’s your mamma? Since you’re just goofing off, wanna dance?”

A couple moments later her momma answered with her own howl. “Better beat it,” I said. “I think she said there’s some food if you get your ass up there.” Off she ambled into the shadows of the sage and the world spun on.
